Cooling Meditation for Pitta

In this meditation practice, we’ll be chanting the seed mantra for the Sacral Chakra – ‘Om Vam’ and using the Mudra (the hand gesture) – Jala Mudra.

The Sacral Chakra is the second chakra of the 7 Chakra System. It is located at the centre of the pelvis and it is associated with the Water Element. Chanting this mantra will help reduce Pitta – the Fire Element and bring Pitta back in balance.

Jala means ‘Water’ and this Mudra directs breath, awareness and energy down into the pelvis, the centre of the Water Element – the Sacral Chakra and helps cultivate greater ease.

Instruction for the Jala Mudra:

Touch the tips of the thumbs to the tips of the little fingers. Extend other fingers straight out. Rest the backs of your hands onto your knees if you are sitting on the floor, or on your thighs if you are sitting on a chair. (If you are sitting on a chair, make sure your feet are both grounded to the earth).
